Motivation: Software engineering increasingly takes advantage of the ability to collect, process, analyze and visualize large quantities of data originating from the development and operations (DevOps) of software applications, products, and services. As an example, embedding AI algorithms into software applications will empower a new class of self-learning, self-optimizing and self-adapting systems. AI techniques, such as deep learning, facilitate accurate classification and prediction, reinforcement learning allows for advanced autonomous planning, and transfer learning enables cross-system/-project/-organizational knowledge exchange. Thereby, AI enables us to take the next step in excelling in software development and operations by delivering smarter software monitoring, analytics, development and management techniques, methods and tools.

Mission: This track will look at AI-enabled techniques, methods and tools for software development and operations. In particular, we will explore the impact of AI for software engineering, serving as a forum for the exchange of ideas, solutions and experiences among researchers and practitioners from the communities of software analytics, software processes, software visualization/HCI, AI, data management, and machine learning.

Topics of interest include, but are not restricted to:

• Methods, tools, applications and lessons learned of AI-based software development
• Methods, tools, applications, and lessons learned of AI-based software operations, such as self-adaptive and self-learning systems
• Big data analytics for software development and operations (DevOps)
• Software and data life-cycle management
• Integrated software and data engineering
• New applications for deep learning, advanced analytics and reasoning
• Predictive methods in software development, operations, and evolution
• Software visualization and visual analytics
• Empirical studies on software visualization, software analytics and big data systems in software engineering
• Estimation and prediction approaches to support of software engineering tasks and guidance for quality assurance
• Risk estimation and prediction in software and systems development projects
• Experience reports about successful or unsuccessful estimation or prediction including a retrospective analysis and lessons learned.

The conference proceedings in the last years have been published by the IEEE Computer Society. The format is the IEEE two-column proceedings format (8 pages for full papers and 4 pages for short papers).

Submission Guidelines: SEAA 2020 encourages the submission of full research papers (maximum 8 pages), short papers and tool demo papers (maximum 4 pages), and posters. Papers follow a single-blinded reviewing process and must contain original unpublished work, describe significant novel contributions, and provide evidence on the validation of results. In particular, reports on industrial applications are welcome.

Conference Publishing Services (CPS) will publish accepted papers in the conference proceedings and the proceedings will be submitted to the IEEE Xplore Digital library and indexing services. A special issue of a journal is planned to which extended version of best papers will be invited.

Please note that it is planned to select best papers among all tracks of SEAA and present them with an award. A selection of best papers will be invited to submit extended versions for tentative publication in a requested Special Issue of a Journal (under negotiation).
